Christmas Spice Cookies {Holiday Cookie Hop}

I’m excited to be teaming up with my friends at Classroom Tested Resources to bring you some of our favorite holiday cookie recipes! We’ve been talking about what recipes we are posting, and I can’t wait to go through the hop today and snag some yummy new holiday treat recipes. Look for a printable version of my recipe at the bottom of this post and a linky full of other holiday goodies from my CTR friends.

Since I was a little girl, I have memories of making these “cut-out and decorate” Christmas cookies with my mom and my sister. I’m so excited to be able to make them with my son and keep the tradition going!

 

You’ll need:
3 c sifted flour
1 c brown sugar
½ tsp. baking powder
1 ½ tsp. cinnamon
½ tsp. ginger
½ tsp. cloves
½ tsp. nutmeg
1 c butter
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Sift together dry ingredients into a mixing bowl.

Cut in butter until mixture resembles fine crumbs.

Stir in eggs and vanilla.

Chill. Roll out dough to ¼-inch thick on a floured cutting board or wax paper. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.

Bake 9 minutes at 350 degrees or until edges are lightly browned.

 

For the Frosting, you will need:
1 egg white
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
1/8 tsp. vanilla
1 ¾ c sifted powdered sugar (10x)
Food coloring

Beat egg white, cream of tartar, and vanilla until foamy.

Beat in powdered sugar gradually until frosting stands in firm peaks.

Tint with food coloring. Frost and decorate cookies.

I love this resource! It was thorough and fun. The kids had a great time going through the various stations. The activities really helped to reinforce their understanding of probability. It was a hit and I will be using this for many years to come. Thank you!

I had purchased other flip books in the past and found them tricky or time-consuming. Not the case with this one! Very simple to use and will be a friendly tool to communicate important information with parents.

This is the best tool for organized groups! The kids love the timer and I love how it is color-coded for 2 minutes and 1 minute. I use this every day for reading and math centers!
