The Sunday Scoop – 9/7/14

I'm linking up for Teaching Trio's brand-spankin-new linky party... the Sunday Scoop! Here's a quick peek at what I have going on this week... I LOVE teaching math with mostly flipped lessons, but since I started flipping mid-year last year, I don't have any videos made for these early chapters. I ... READ the POST

Meet the Teacher-Blogger

I always love learning more about bloggers I follow, and who've helped shape my teaching and my classroom. So when I saw Stephanie at Falling into First's Meet the Teacher Blogger linky, I just had to participate!    My name is Kristen, and I'm the face behind Chalk & Apples! I am currently in ... 10 reasons to love Planbook.com

A little over a year ago, I tried something new...online lesson planning. Like most of you, I was used to writing down plans in a spiral bound lesson plan book. While that method is obviously time-tested, I've found that online planning offers some pretty impressive benefits when compared with the ... READ the POST

It's tough to believe it, but we're already 4 ... READ the POST

Stoplight Check for Self Assessment: Freebie!

I created this Stoplight Assessment tool to use for formative assessment. I used it primarily in math last year. At the end of the lesson, students wrote a quick note to me on a sticky note about how they were doing with the concept and put it on the correct spot on the stoplight. It makes a really ... After 2 years of using this resource I can say that it dramatically helped my usually low performing students be recognized as in the top 10% of growth in the state. This is a must have for any 5th grade teacher.

I love this resource! It was thorough and fun. The kids had a great time going through the various stations. The activities really helped to reinforce their understanding of probability. It was a hit and I will be using this for many years to come. Thank you!

I had purchased other flip books in the past and found them tricky or time-consuming. Not the case with this one! Very simple to use and will be a friendly tool to communicate important information with parents.

This is the best tool for organized groups! The kids love the timer and I love how it is color-coded for 2 minutes and 1 minute. I use this every day for reading and math centers!
